Did I tell you I’m visiting the book shelves in the guys bedrooms for reading material? Recently, Steinbeck’s “Of Mice & Men” jumped out at me.
This week, I’m taking solace in the quote “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”
We live in WNY and experienced a crazy snowstorm this week. I should more accurately say that parts of WNY were hit – head on – and continue to be hit. Thankfully, we’re just having normal snow here in the northtowns.
When your work requires a computer and software on said computer… Always have a backup plan. A hardware and a software backup plan.
And… I did…
Doesn’t life just stink when the primary and the secondary fail.
So on top of not having a fun #snowvember story to tell (I’m kidding and blessed that we don’t have to clear feet of snow) my plans for this week have, well, gone awry. The plan was, after waiting for my Apple Genius appointment – what felt like forever(days), to visit my awesome new friends at the Apple Service center. They fantastically discovered the problem and the fix, are waiting for a part. A part that, I suppose, has been held hostage by first the storm in other parts of the country and now #snowvember.
As ironic as this is, I did have a plan. A fallback plan. Just in case.
A plan that upon returning from the Apple Service Center, started circling the drain.
The fallback plan was my old Windows laptop. Yes, it was slow. But in a pinch, slow is better than nothing. It had versions of the software I needed. Slow is OK…
Until I started using it, and ran another virus scan – which I do on a regular basis. I’m pretty careful. But after a couple reboots, the dreaded blue screen reared its ugly head. No way!
Unfortunately there’s enough on the hard drive that my thoughts immediately went to a virus and the time a wipe of the hard drive would cause. Yup, I was spooked. …and frustrated …and now disrupted for longer than I expected.
Hoping for my mbp soon, and the arrival of my newly ordered Windows laptop.
…And especially the clearing of the Lake Effect Monster so my shipping arrives.
Just to say the words, there are people this crazy storm has caused real problems for. I’m not one of them. My plans got shifted and it’s just frustrating. This is nothing compared to the people who spent >24 hours stuck in their car. I definitely have things in perspective. And on the up side, the house is mostly ready for the Turkey Day festivities!
