Last Ski

face plant skiing at Holiday Valley

Yesterday was our last ski for the year.

That shot is my face plant a couple weeks ago, the only warm ski day of the year, when my skis stopped and body momentum didn’t. Thumb is still a little sore, but was pretty lucky. Not sure how I ended up in this position, it was that mid air flip with a 180°… The guys on the lift were hooting and howling. Nice!

I never ski hard enough to fall much. It’s a plan… to not be hurt for work Monday. This year, hopefully because I’m in better shape (so I just love even thinking that), we’ve been pushing the envelope a little more. It’s been our year of black diamonds….

The conditions were fantastic yesterday, especially for March 16th. This year we used up our 8 passes and the March bonus. It was a great (very cold) ski season. A couple years ago we started buying the Flexi-Night pass at Holiday Valley. It commits us to skiing for January and February. Usually by the second week in March, other obligations take over. After our youngest left for college, we needed something to do when it’s dark and cold and wet (not to mention to stay in shape). Always great to get out and to ski with friends.

So for January and February we sneak in 8 trips out to Ellicottville, NY. It’s a town that has embraced its skiing roots and is just a fun place to spend time. We enjoy the Ellicottville Brewing Company and Balloons for a good beer, food & environment when we’re there.

Now it’s time to shift the focus back to running! Skiing has my quads in a good place, more about my foot tomorrow.

Spring… here we come.

How are you spending St. Pats? It’s yoga and then a fundraiser for us.
