For some runners, the love is instant. For me, it’s learning to love running.
Running started really as an easy, cheap way to drop a few pounds or to stay in shape while the kids were younger with a friend. You could squeeze it in, after dinner (I know) or in the morning(rare in those days). The dog would get a run, we’d get some girl time, exercise and it would just work.
I never really liked the act of running but it checked those boxes and my body could actually do it. And it felt great after. So we ran.
Then I stopped. Life got busy and crazy and we went our different ways.
It happens…
Then I gained weight and got out of shape… that happens too!
So I came back to running and yoga. On again, off again for a while.
For the past 2 1/2 years it’s been mostly on. We started setting some goals… (we’re so darn competitive) and then reaching those goals. It’s something we can do with our adult kids. Everyone loves a good cause, course and after party!
But I still don’t love running. I love what running does for me. How my body feels and the energy I get from running. I’m blessed to be able to put one foot in front of the other to run and thankful.
So. I. run.
Learning to love running…. It’s like eating oatmeal… don’t really love oatmeal, but love what it does to my body. So I eat it… and so I run!
