Finally… Saturday morning we were set to hit the pavement.
It was time to put my new Brooks Ghost 7’s to use… running. They were my grab when I twisted my foot. What could be better than a brand new pair of running shoes for the support I needed? Since mid-Sept they’ve been part of my recovery.
It’s time to get to their real purpose… running :). The first time for me since the half. Waking on Saturday, my foot was still tweaking… just barely. It had me confident that running a 5K was an OK decision.
It was a beautiful fall morning for a run in the city… for a good cause. St. Mary’s School for the Deaf is the reason we signed up. We even recruited some friends and of course, as with all things running, made some new!
The course was flat with a slight downhill start. That meant fast! We started running the side streets across from St. Mary’s to get to the Delaware Park Ring Road. My Ring Road runs have always been counter-clockwise… today we went against the grain and ran clock-wise. Change is good. After a loop we headed back to finish at the chute next to the start. I was impressed with the traffic control for a Saturday morning near Delaware Park. The volunteers and Buffalo Police did a great job for us. Thanks guys!
Can I mention again… a perfect fall morning.
They set up a tent on the front lawn… see it in the pic? A nice after party… a wide variety of drinks, cookies, yogurt, nice fruit and breakfast pizza. I love breakfast pizza, so was in my glory. Since it was such a nice day, we grabbed a set of steps and made some new running friends.
The first few steps had me questioning my decision… maybe it’s just tight from lack of use… Haha somedays always I’m overly optimistic. Considered stopping but it wasn’t that bad. Needless to say, it was a longer run… at least it felt like it. It was great to get out, just a little early.
Thankfully, my foot was wrapped and the Aleve was close. Wish I would have thought ahead to remember ice… oh well. It hurt the rest of Saturday but didn’t impact my “Paint the Fence” plans for Sunday. This morning it feels back to recovering. Should be really back this weekend. I hope so, but no pressure. Looking into some pool training. Need to keep this level of fitness…
It’s not all about me. Porter had a great run, even came away with some metal. Whoo Hoot! Congratulations Porter!
Last January it was easy to not run too early on that foot with tendonitis. Really, running in the winter in WNY is no carnival.
Running outside, during beautiful fall weather… it’s my hands down favorite time of year. Keeping that Turkey Trot goal front and center. It’s not a new, huge goal… it’s a fun goal. Sometimes that’s just what you need…
It felt good to get back to it… and for a good cause.
What did you run this weekend?
