When I committed to run Marcothon, little did I know it came with a strong, supportive, world-wide running community in a Facebook Group. Such a Facebook win.
Facebook has had me a little pensive for years. How much did I want to really share and who cared? Maybe I was little neurotic about ads for pet products popping up immediately after walking into a local pet store and making a purchase. For a while the sharing was important and a Facebook group was the easiest and quickest way my brain could put those pieces together. Mostly it’s been a little like/dislike depending on where life is.
Marcothon had me back checking Facebook to see how everyone was doing. To keep me motivated to hit the pavement or the treadmill. It was truly wonderful. And it was truly global.
Our humanity loves to support someone reaching for a goal. Many of us quietly live our daily wins and challenges. Sometimes not-so-quietly. Everyone has their share comfort level. I loved that there was a spot I could drop in on and lend a word of support to other runners or get the support I needed, and share as I chose. Runners are generally happy, supportive people – they get the reaching for a new goal thing; the support that helps and the hurdles you have to clear to get there. Marcothon was a fantastic experience, made that way by the world-wide ever supportive community. The best virtual running group!
Marcothon was definitely a Facebook win… enabling a strong, comforting, motivating, supportive community.
Thanks!
