Happy Mother’s Day!
I’ve read recently that there are some women who are not mothers and are offended at being wished a “Happy Mother’s Day” just because they are an influential woman in someone’s life. Never having to deal with the nightmare of infertility or the death of a child, I have trouble placing myself in their shoes but can understand why it could be hurtful. In the strict sense of the day, they are NOT mothers.
My mother passed away silently in her sleep almost four years ago. It was exactly how she said she wanted to pass, as tortuous as it was for us. Mom had suffered a minor stroke and was battling lung cancer, so she had health issues but had not reached the point where she required Hospice care. It was a blessing. She was a fiercely independent person. Having to be helped through her final days would have been difficult for her.
At Mother’s Day, and everyday, I miss her.
If you’re not a mom and someone wishes you a Happy Mother’s Day please understand that it is given with the best intentions by someone who loves and appreciates you!
It is a good thing…
