Porter ran the Snowball Run yesterday. I got this nice shot of the tail of the start (not running and all…)
It was a nice day, about 24° and sunny. For February in Buffalo, a perfect day for a run! The roads were mainly dry, a winter-time coup.
The Snowball Run helps to support the Morlock Foundation. The run moved this year to the new Morlock Foundation offices at the Larkin Center of Commerce. That’s in the revitalizing Larking District(Larkinville) of Downtown Buffalo. We have a couple favorite places in this part of town so we were excited to be running through the area.
This 5K course included two man-made “hills.” The city of Buffalo is mostly flat, you have to head to the Southtowns to run hills. Running through the city, these man-made hills are what move you over or under the highways or train tracks. The first was about a half mile in, not bad. The second was just before the finish. Looking at it, I was glad to be walking it (OK, not really). But you can’t run flat all the time… Just a challenge as you’re a couple hundred feet from the finish. The good news is you know it’s short lived.
This is a nice route for any runner looking for a February run.
They did a great job with the organization of the race, with a yummy after party of pasta, salad, bread, drinks, coffee and pastries/cookies for dessert. Lots of tables and seating for a festive time. The venue for the after party was a renovated space on the 8th floor of the Larkin Center of Commerce. This building was originally the home of the Larkin Soap Company. They’ve done a fantastic job with the areas we got a peek at yesterday. Talk about dotting their i’s and crossing their t’s… each age group winner received a replica bar of Larking Soap Company soap, the product of another LCC neighbor, Bath & Bliss. A nice touch.
Swag included long-sleeved red t-shirts for all.
