This week started out not great, not sure why. We had the “Blizzard of 2014” which dropped some snow and brought bitter cold temps, right after the holidays it has everything a little off. I’m working on the right balance to stay hydrated. Think that may be part of it. Also starting to consider my diet in regard to running. The humanity of longer runs has me considering things I have never thought of. Interesting, right? The “ins & outs” of running :). Sorry.
Progress this Week

Tuesday I could only do 20 minutes of running. But. I. Did. It. We all have off days. Maybe this was one of them. I’ll get back on the horse tomorrow. Feel better for doing it!
Thursday was just a busy day. Should have run in the morning. Lame excuse, we fill our days and I let training today get away.
Saturday did a treadmill run because the weather this week has been chaotic. Cold and snowy (Blizzard of 2014) Tuesday/Wednesday; now it’s raining & 40-something. A busy day prepping for a party but squeezed it in. Felt pretty good, fantastic when finished. No pain, just boring. Running on the treadmill requires video stimulation… not just music! I’m trying to transition from timing my treadmill runs to distance. The expectations are a little different, just need to get my head around it.
Sunday was tough. Needed an outside day and it was a good day for it. Tried out my new Christmas present – a SUGOi Firewall 180 quarter zip. Thank you boys, I love, love, love it. At 33 degrees, that, a pair of running pants, warm socks and hat was all I needed. Fantastic!
The run itself started out good. First mile sub-9, but down hill from there. Finished 3.3 miles in 30:30. Trying to get to a 9 min mile on 5K. I was surprised when I checked mapmyrun.com that it was actually 9:14. So it wasn’t as bad time-wise as I thought. After the first mile, it was hard. Felt like I was running through water. No pain just slogging. Just kept at it and finished it up. After being on my feet Saturday and Sunday before running, my feet are really sore. Actually I think it was wearing different shoes to the party Saturday night on top of being on my feet so long. Anyway by Sunday night, I’m uncomfortable.
Today (Monday), I’m (more than) a little sore. This past week, after skiing, I’ve added some squats to the routine and continue to work arms and abs. Feet and legs are feeling it. Not injury pain, it’s “progress” pain. There is definitely a difference. Need to work on my feet. Historically, my feet have created issues for me. Wearing heals has mostly been a painful experience for me. Need to work on this…
The week finished strong… feel great about the weekend.
How is your training going?
