Training Update

This week started out with energy for many things. Running just didn’t seem to be one of them, unfortunately! Oh no! Added to cross training. Yup, some may call me a wimp but baby steps will keep my healthy. At least I hope so. The goal is to build up with no major setbacks. This week running was OK. Pretty normal actually, some days hard, some not so much. Just need to keep my head in the right place and as the saying goes… “carry on.” Skiing was stronger this week, the first time out is always tough. Harder with tired legs. Maybe the squats helped, maybe it was just a good weekend.

Progress this Week

Day Distance Description
Tues  20 min  Treadmill 5 min walk/10 min 6& 10 min 5.5/5 min walk
Thursday  off  off
Saturday  3 mi  Treadmill 5 min walk/3 mi @6/5 min walk
Sunday  4.1 mi  Treadmill 5 min walk/ 4.1mi @5.5/5 min walk

Tuesday
As you can probably tell from the mileage, it was a shorter run. My right knee started tweaking at 1.5 miles. Since it didn’t stop by 2, I did. Knees and back have been weaker body parts for me. I’ve learned it’s not something to ignore. So I didn’t. Don’t want an injury to sideline my Sept plans.

Thursday
Knee has been tweaking through squats so took a break from running, kept up with my exercises. Hope it helps.

Saturday
Knee felt better today, no pain. Couldn’t catch my breath to save my life… well you know the saying. A nice steady snow so made it a treadmill day. It’s easier on my body so two good reasons to spend some time in the basement. We’re skiing tonight so put in 3 good miles and called it a day.

Sunday
Skiing was a shorter night last night. We under dressed, needed another top layer. It was cold and a little windy. Hand & toe warmers made it possible for us to stay out for a couple of hours. Ha I used two hand warmers in my gloves. Porter thought that was a riot. Two was the ticket to keeping my fingers relatively warm. It was 13 degrees when we got in the car. It felt colder than that, and was with the wind. We were going to ski again tonight but there are -15 wind chills. Opting out.

Running today was on the treadmill – wind chill at home was around -25. Yup, treadmill day. It was a much easier day today for a longer run. Maybe because I wasn’t rushed. Some of it was because it was a slower run. Yesterday had me rushing to get into the shower to get on the slopes. Maybe I just was feeling better today. I’m trying to track the runs because sometimes there are patterns and while it won’t keep me from running it will make me think about how/what I’m doing.

Gearing up this week for a 5K Saturday. Target is a 29 minute run.

How is your training going?
