Weekly Summary MapMyRun.com

This week took some time off. My injury is feeling much better starting this week. Am back to squats/lunges/planks/hand weights every other day. It’s about staying healthy while growing strength for the next 3 1/2 weeks.

The long run Saturday was tough to start. It was incredibly humid & warm… little bit of mist. Pea soupish. Yuck!  Time was much slower than last week, but it’s on the books. Thankfully it wasn’t sunny, so it was a bit cooler.

Did the route again stopping at home around half way (6.5 miles) for a potty break, some gu & water. Did some light stretching before and am trying to start with a slow mile as worm up instead of walking. We’ll see, so far that isn’t working as well but doesn’t seem to be a problem. After didn’t feel bad, actually felt good. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that time isn’t the goal, finishing is the goal. Not that I’m fast or anything, just running against myself. Went through my routine of some stretching, icing my foot and hydrating. There’s this feeling that I’ve been getting after the long run… you’re energized but with this high level of tired. A crazy dichotomy that gets you through the day.

After, we went and walked around a local art festival until my feet couldn’t take it any more. Porter is having some issues again with his calf muscles. Very tight and painful. I hope he’s able to turn that around.

These long runs are energizing and my body feels great afterwards. I’m just wiped out. Completely. Saturday was an early night. Put on a RedBox and was out 10 minutes in. Sunday did some things around the house, but was still tired & we were both a little cranky. Sunday was another early night. Not quite as early as Saturday. Feel normal Monday. Ready to take on the world again!

When we do another half, maybe with a better base it won’t be as tiring. We’ll see.

We were planning on some kayaking on Sunday, I was tired by the time we were ready to get the kayaks out, could only imagine how tired Porter was. Shifted gears.. it was better to hang around the house. Got lots of little things done I’ve been wanting to. Not bad. It seems like 10 miles was the point where long runs started being crazy tiring. Not hard to do, well not really… just hard to do much else afterward. 🙂

How is your training going?
