Tuesday
Today was weird. First two miles were tough. My left achilles was so tight and I considered quitting. Listened to the little voice in the back of my head saying… not sharp, not bad, keep rolling. Somewhere between 2-3 things turned. Maybe because I slowed down, maybe I was warmed up, no idea. At 3.5 I was ready to keep going… always encouraging. Of course when the miles were done… I stopped. It was good to cool down walking :). Funny how that works out.
Thursday
First mile was a shakeout, little tight. Second felt like I wanted to quit at 2.5. Rest wasn’t bad. Actually last mile was good. Love that I don’t feel like dying after 4 miles. Must mean I’m getting stronger. Just don’t feel as strong as I think I should.
Saturday
Started with a tight left achilles tendon again and a few tweaks on my right knee. Put my brace on and got running. With my knee, decided longer on the treadmill was the best choice vs outside in the freezing rain. I usually break around 6 miles so am taking it slow and steady this time! The treadmill may be boring but it is kinder to my body. I’ve started watching Amazon Prime Movies for my longer treadmill runs. Don’t have to turn pages or worry about starting/stopping TED talks or WordPress.tv sessions mid-run. I know mindless, but the priority is the run. We’ll work on the rest as the running gets stronger. It can be hard sometimes to wrap my brain around running for an hour or more. Since I need to reach over two for Sept, anything that helps… works. No Luminosity for me right now!
It was a nice run. OK, every run is work, but it is what it is. Starting at that bar, it was a good run. I actually felt like I could have kept going at 5.5. Nice! Walked for a little longer. Felt my knee and something around my left ankle/heel after the run. Kept walking around the house to shake it out before hitting the shower. Seemed to help and feeling fine now. I take a couple aspirins after longer runs just to tame the inflammation. It may not be good training, I’l l have to look into it. Just know I seem to be feeling good.
This weather is crazy. No skiing today because it’s raining. No skiing last weekend because it was crazy cold (-25 to -50-something) wind chills. Hopefully tomorrow.
Sunday
Waffled about running this morning. Wanted to but… I’ll fess up that sometimes I’m a real wimp. My biggest fear is getting injured. How silly is that. So if I get injured, I’ll do what’s needed to recover. It’ll only postpone the goal not eliminate it. Buck Up!! I’ll keep telling myself this (and at some point listen). Feel it and move on…
Ok I’m back. We were planning on skiing with a couple friends who skis faster & harder than we usually do. Since it was going to be a black diamond day, (& oops… I ran out of time) cross-training it is.
Remember that we put off an April half for Jan/Feb skiing. Skiing is the priority. The fantastic news is that is was a great day of skiing. We ski until we couldn’t. With hard skiing, I was psyched that we could hit it for almost 3 hours, head in for some chow & a beer then head out for another hour or so. It was getting pretty icy from the rain yesterday as it cooled off after the sun went down. Hard to manage the firming surface & ice on tired legs. After dinner it was empty, so hard to pass up. We had some super fast, almost alone runs that were hard to pass up. So we kept at it until it burned. Fun day cross-training.
Did fall once… not bad but lost my right ski. Wore my right knee brace and felt it a little on the harder runs.
