Our training update week 4 starts out like this… So a funny thing happened on the way to the half marathon… we changed horses :). No really.
Porter felt pretty strongly that our 20 week plan was too aggressive and that April was too early. He’s under some deadlines at work and I completely agree that it’s more important to be injury free than aggressive for the sake of… what? The other reason is that we ski in Jan and Feb (March weather permitting). Porter is concerned that I’m overly optimistic about training and skiing…. Not me :)…
I had been looking at another run in September. It looked like fun, but was really close to home. Kind of too close to stay anywhere, so not a “destination.” We’ll see.
But we signed up and are running the Mighty Niagara Half Marathon. All of us… at least I have my fingers crossed.

This week started out feeling great! Tuesday I bumped it up a notch again and it worked out pretty well. I’m still trying to work out when to stop. Today my right hamstring was a little sore again but I pushed through it. It seems that most times getting through the first two miles is the hard part. My oldest son says it’s 3-4 miles. Ha I don’t run enough yet, it’s coming. I was glad to be done.
We went out dancing for New Years Eve. They had a martini bar so two martinis and a white russian later… Wednesday was a harder morning than I had planned :). It was so much fun and definitely worth being tired. I love getting dressed up for a night of dancing but my feet were sure tired and sore!
The run Thursday was pretty good. Another treadmill day. It was snowy and cold… which means slick roads & the treadmill. Opted for no incline since the past two runs had my right hamstring sore. So love being at the point where my mantra becomes… “I can do anything for a mile.” Whoo hoo, getting faster and stronger. Tonight we ate dinner after my run. For dessert I got out a couple chocolate chip cookies from the freezer, some for Porter as a reward for after his run later. He appreciated it! 🙂
I gave in to Porter’s concerns about skiing on Saturday. Ha only partly… I’ve been on vacation for almost two weeks and haven’t read one book. This is the day (oh… and skiing) :).
Sunday snuck in a quick 3 miles at the upped pace of 6mph & no incline (to give my right hamstring a break) before skiing.
Just a note that Porter was, as usual, right. Skiing and training for a half (because we are so out of shape) will probably mean shorter ski days. The decision to run in September is really the right one. It does seem to be all about the quads! Just another training focus uncovered…
How is your training going?
