This past week was a weird training one, starting with moving the long run to Sunday then running a 5K on Wednesday. Not enough cross-training. All messed up. Not bad, just messed up, off the recent routine.

Took Monday & Tuesday off… all that paddling & then running had me sore on Monday. Yes, I could have pushed it but it was a juggle with a busy work day. Guess who won?
Ran the Ronald MacDonald 5K on Wednesday. See the recap. Best time since my foot injury in January… whoo hoot… getting there. Actually any time I run with Youngest, it’s a good time. He may say he’s not a runner but he’s a runner and could be as good as he wants to be. Not everyone was meant to run 100 miles a week. I’m so thankful for every opportunity we have to run together. After dropping him off at a friends, we hit the hot tub! A perfect end to the day.
Ran 5 miles Thursday. It was hotter than I had expected, so it was a 10:02 pace. Actually that’s not bad for me. My right foot was chattering a bit towards the end. Icing helped, but could feel it.
Friday was a total rest day. Nice.
Saturday was a tough run. Not sure why, just felt like I was slugging through, never quite reaching that easy run point. Maybe because it was hot & humid, maybe because my foot was tweaking through the run, never reaching the point that would cause me to stop. Just chattering along the way. I was pretty psyched to reach 10 miles… first double digit run! It was hot because it takes my body a bit to get started and seemed to take longer today. After last long run, wanted to get the “housekeeping” out of the way before heading out. Even so, stopped at a marina I run by at about the half way point. Probably could have made it back but it was there so I too advantage. With the heat, the water drop at 6.5 mi was much anticipated. Thankfully the water was still there. Picked up the second bottle. Because of the way I ran was about .5 mi ahead of where I expected, that second bottle was at 8.5. I was getting tired so my mind went to… if I’m not injured and have water, I can take this last mile and pretty much anything it has to bring. It was a head game, not a physical game. Slam dunk… finished just before the hill that ends most runs. Loved walking it instead of running it!
After Wed run, it was a little chilly as the night went on. Youngest commented that my lips were blue. Didn’t give it a thought… until looking in the mirror after the long run. They were blue twinged. Focus will be on my breathing the next couple weeks. Let’s see if it’s an issue. Know that I can be a shallow breather, especially towards the end of a run when you’re tired and pushing. Will pay attention and let you know how it goes.
Sunday was a bust. By the time we got out, it was like soup. Not hot, only about 72, but humid. Yep… soup. Damp before you take a step. We run on Sundays to shake things out after the long run. There are different schools of thought on this, not sure who wins. Some say must run at least a little, some say rest day. When my knee started that pain down the center at the half mile point, yet my foot was fine, took that as a sign, finished the mile with a walk. Will be sure to add some Yoga this week to work on… well everything (especially quads, hips & core).
Starting to think about goals after the half, maybe a faster 5K, or just a stronger 5K will mean a faster 5K.
