Training Update

Been absent over the past month or so. Slowly building back the miles on my foot. It’s been busy trying to get all the spring outside work done and keep training. As Porter said last week… “This training takes a lot of time & energy!”

Yes, yes it does. He really hit the nail on the head, it’s just building new routines.

Think some of it is that I’m nervous about pushing through that 6-8 mile wall that my body has had the past couple years. Working hard to build up the base to push through. We’re getting there as you can see below. Let’s let the numbers speak for themselves.

training update 09 June 2014

The more I do the Ashtanga yoga, the more I like how it makes me feel. It’s definitely a workout. My body was meant to be used. I love my desk job but this body needs motion!!This was a strong training week. My head is in the right place. The foot twinges but it seems to be manageable. Icing has become my BFF :). Read about a runner who ices their feet in a bucket after long runs so tried it after Saturday’s run. Oh… so painful… yet so good. The short version is while painful, much easier and far more effective than an icepack. Besides how many Moms can share text quips with their eldest on icing tips? That would be me!

Key icing tip from eldest… “You have to bite on a towel until it numbs.” Good to know. For some reason it was easier on Sunday. Hopefully it gets easier the more you do it! Just know that, like running, it feels great after you finish.

Spent yesterday morning at the Girls on the Run 5K in our town. Saying this is a fantastic event is a gross understatement. It is a gift. So many amazing girls learning that they have the power to set and achieve goals, to push themselves physically wherever they are. It felt good to just be there. This year was a hot and humid morning, so it was more of a challenge. Kudos to everyone who took part.

How is your training going?
