Since my foot is still healing (or reinjuring 🙁 … ) no running this past week. Different exercising, no running.
We’re signed up for a 5K Saturday for a good cause. I hope to run it, even slowly. We’ll see how the next couple days go. One day at a time.
It was a great weekend. Yes, the weather was garbage… But going in I knew it would be a weekend of yummy.
Buffalo Beer Week was 10 days this year. While it’s impossible to be everywhere, we did try to make as many events as possible. My favorite part about Beer Week… don’t tell Porter… is the fantastic food.
Friday started with an Oktoberfest at Iron Works. We’re not huge Oktoberfest people unless… there’s great food in the mix. There was… definitely and event we’ll go back for next year. Great German food always puts a smile on my face (Porter’s too). They had good German beer too, it was definitely worth the stop. The authentic German band was good, don’t you love the outfits?
Saturday was a little work work, a little around the house work and a little down time. It was a cold, mostly rainy day so our planned fall cleanup wasn’t happening.
We topped the day off with a candle light dinner.. Beef Rib Roast… a first for us (the rib roast, not the candles:)). Yup, I even polished the silver candlesticks. Don’t think they’ve been out for 20 years :). I have to do better about remembering to take pics. Sorry… I really am getting better! Missed this one. We made a traditional Rib Roast with a spice rub. The mashed potatoes and a corn casserole meant tasty comfort food for a cold, rainy day.
It.was.heavenly!
Trying not to eat too much was the order of the weekend.
Sunday we had rsvp’d for a Founders Brewery beer paring brunch at The Public House Buffalo. The Public House is quickly becoming one of our favorite places. We’ve stopped in for a beer, but hadn’t eaten there yet.
The brunch was… excellent. Exceeded my our expectations. The chef was spot on… loving being able to tell him so! I did remember to get some pics (it’s easier when you’re not in the middle of mashing the potatoes) and here they are.
Afterward we headed to McCarthy’s for their Oktoberfest offerings. More yummy Oktoberfest eating.
I knew Monday would be tough after a weekend of partying. Justification, rationalization… yup I’m going there. Do you think calling it a (or another) post-half celebration would work? Probably time to ride that horse out-of-town.
Food hangovers are terrible. Penance. It’s penance for a great weekend… Little good eating and lots of water… will have me ready for the next Beer or Restaurant Week.
We’ll take a little break from Monday training updates… well, at least until I’m back training for the Trot.
With any luck, hopefully next week.
