Over the past week I caught up on the NPR podcast This American Life spinoff, Serial.
Youngest’s lady friend mentioned it over Christmas and I had heard some buzz (being an NPR fan & all) but hadn’t gotten to adding it to my playlist.
While it wasn’t quite what I was expecting… for some reason I had it in my head that Serial was an old fashioned radio show (it’s not)… Each episode had me looking towards the next.
I liked that it took a 50K foot look at an actual crime and tried to work through it.
I liked that it showed the untidiness, the humanity of a criminal process. That many people involved cooperated. That 15 years later… people will forget and die, they may not be truthful, technology will change, unbiased perspective may see things differently.
Life is messy. Truth & justice maybe even more so.
If you haven’t taken a listen, it’s free at the NPR website. Give it a try. (It’s also on iTunes.)
