Thursday Update July 12

With the trip to NYC, grad party & July 4th, I expected to be way up. Reality is sometimes sweeter… am actually trending down. I’ll elaborate below but think it’s because we’ve been so busy and trying hard to keep our activity up. Thought the trip to NYC would totally blow my progress – between the hours in a car and the food… oh the food!

Exercise

Running. My long run on Saturday was 4.5 miles. Just wanted to finish so didn’t time it. Am slugging through Galloway’s Book on Running by Jeff Galloway to learn more about how to train and improve my running. I’m not sold on the run/walk technique but will try it as mileage is increased. What a great start to the day today was. Porter & I actually got up and started the day with a 2.6 mile run. The energy that short run provides bumps my day up a notch to borrow a phrase from Emeril. I’m going to try to add it for our Tuesday and Thursday runs. Will let you know how it goes.

Swimming. Porter & I are adding swimming a couple times a week. I try to up my laps with each swim. Don’t laugh, am up to 7 before the lifeguard starts to look like he’s ready to jump in!

Eating

Well, this has gone… well as you would expect the last week your son is home before moving into his first apartment, there is a family grad party, and a move in trip. Making good choices can be hard, but I did try. We’ve decided to try to lower carbs, but stopping for a few beers while in NYC really blew that part of it out of the water. We’ll get back to it now that our routine is getting back to it. Guess that’s really the summary of the week… We’re getting back to it!

Results

Have to say that running is torture. I do not enjoy running… I LOVE the way my body & mind feel when it’s over. So that keeps me moving. Because we are doing it together, when I loose focus, Porter is there to keep it moving forward. Makes a huge difference.

To keep us motivated, we’re looking for a 10K for September or Oct. Think we’ll register for one the last Sat of September. The training schedule has us doing a 5K 2 weeks before. Goal is to register for both tomorrow. We’re so frugal that paying for it commits us!

This morning was at 157. Haven’t been tracking the past 4 days, so will try to remember tomorrow. I’ve been writing it on our calendar. Yikes… which everyone can see. Open and committing or trying…

What goals have you set this week?
